Many thought the Pokemon Go phenomenon was over after a few weeks, but Niantic has just announced two big new events for July which will provide plenty of extra Pokemon captures and rewards. The first is a week-long series of Pokemon Go events called Pokemon Safari. In the weeks of July 5-12, players will be able to encounter a number of Pokemon (including new ones) in designated areas. The first Safari is in San Diego, California and other locations will be announced in the coming weeks. The other Pokemon Go event is a July 17-18 event focused on a new Pokemon called Bidoof, which will be available to catch in limited quantities in the game. Pokemon Go has been blowing up since its launch last week, so it’s no surprise that the game has been a huge hit across the globe. Whether you’re playing the game at home or on the go, it’s hard to imagine a time when you weren’t hooked on catching and training the next generation of Pokemon.
Pokemon Go’s summer is here, and the next few months are heavy with events. The game’s announcement of a new region added to its map in June was a boon for players, but Pokemon Go’s July events are a bit more special. With the first event, ‘Bidoof Time,’ Pokemon Go is celebrating the game’s first heavy hitter in-game event, and the second, ‘Bidoof vs. Wobbuffet’, is a continuation of the first, honoring the game’s first legendary Pokemon in the third generation of Pokemon. But for the next event, ‘Let’s Eevee it!’ Pokemon Go is turning player’s attention to a species that has yet to be featured in a Pokemon Go event.
The previously mentioned Bidoof events in Pokemon Go in June will continue in July with the Bidoof Breakout event. Bidoof will tackle all– and-levels with Raids, Spawns and Rocket Pokémon, and even get its own PvP Cup (yes, Master Leagues and Elemental Cup will still be available), but it will also include the first special branching exploration that will change your quest experience. It’ll be free. And it will include ahat. Oh, and a 4x XP increase (or 8x if you use Lucky Egg).
But that’s not all that’s going on: Apart from the Tepig community day on the 3rd. July, the Go Fest 2021 event, and the impending horror of COVID’s change cancellation, Niantic is sending us a number of turns in July, and I’m not just talking about Rufflet’s escape exploration later in the month (with deleted passes, again!).
For Mega Pokémon, Niantic is focusing on Fire, but it’s also interesting to see Gengar. While I know that in some cultures haunts appear in the summer, I think in Japan they usually appear in late July/August, but it’s still nice to see them come back since Gengar is one of the strongest megs and the only type of haunt. I would also note that Charizard’s mega energy comes from X or Y. So if you’ve already developed one of the two variants, you can just phase it out to get mega power for both variants. Interestingly, this is the first month since the feature’s launch in August 2020 that a new form of Mega has appeared in instead of, with the exception of the November update which added numerous quality of life changes to remedy the feature’s disastrous launch.

Talk about mega: Three of the four Spotlight Hours (events held every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time) in July will feature Mega-Form Pokémon. Tuesday 6. July is dedicated to Bulbasaur, for which you get double XP. On the 13th. July is Charmander night, and you get a double dose of candy. I realize some may want to use double candy to catch Meltan via mystery boxes. But since Charizard has both of these Mega Forms, people may want to focus more on the Fire Lizard this time around. On the 20th. In July, it’s Squirtle’s turn, and you’ll get two candies if you pass on the Pokémon. The 27th. Finally, Weird Man Natu will make an appearance in the game in July, and you’ll get twice the XP for evolving your Pokémon.
On Tepig Community Day, you’ll get more candy with a fire-type Mega like Hounddoom or one of Charizard’s forms, but Emboar, his latest form, won’t be much better than any of the currently available forms. He holds up better than Blaziken, but even with Explosive Fire there are better options in PvE and PvP. Worse, Emboar doesn’t have Mega form, while Blaziken does. Unless you really need the firemen or are a fan of the fire pig, Tepig Community Day should be pretty quiet.
As for raids, we expect Defense Deoxys to run from the 1st to the 16th. July will come again. Deoxys forms generally have niche applications, but defensive forms are pretty good for Ultra and Big League games. The news that Mewtwo will be moving from the 16th to the 23rd. The July release also means that players may want to save a pass/timing for the day of the Go Fest raid, as you’ll have more time to grab it before and after the event (plus, players of rank 20+ in PvP may be able to get it as a reward). We don’t yet know which Pokémon will be in the Raid on the 23rd. July will appear, but we will let you know the details as soon as they are available.
Talk about secrets: Pokemon Go will celebrate its fifth anniversary from Tuesday, July 6 at 10am to Thursday, July 15 at 8pm local time, but we don’t yet have details on what the event will be, and we’ll update this post again as soon as we know more.
Finally, for PvP fans, there will be a new PvP game from Monday 28. June to Monday 12. July, a double stardust bonus, and at 11. In July, GO Battle Night takes place from 6 p.m. to midnight, with triple stardust. This will stack and notwith the double Dust event, but the event at 11. In the month of July you can do 100 PvP battles, if you can fit them all in.

The past month has been dominated by a wave of leaks, beginning with the knowledge that all of July’s events are themed after Pokemon with the letter B in their names. In other words, there will be no Pikachu-themed days or months, but there will be plenty of other B-themed events..
