This review is going to be mostly about the overall experience of playing Tiny Tina’s WONDERLAND and not so much on its performance as an actual game.

IGN gives Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands a 9.5 out of 10, saying that the game is “a loot-filled, fast-paced shooter with a great sense of humor.”

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Review: Loot Galore

Gearbox Software is already known for its stellar looter-shooter franchise, Borderlands. With Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, the studio aims to add elements of D&D, alongside some even quirkier quirkiness, to its winning formula to create a unique experience.

And it succeeds for the most part. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is only held back by its plot, which features the return of several well-known characters and follows up where Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep left off in 2013.

The treasure is, of obviously, the most essential component of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, and it does not disappoint. The loot is bountiful, and you’ll be continuously rewarded with new armor and weaponry.

Even if you merely want to stay with a weapon that feels nice regardless of level and stats, the pace at which you obtain drops keeps the battle exciting and pushes you to test out other weapons and techniques.

Finding new armor and weapons to make your character more strong is as addictive as it has always been, and you’ll find yourself switching between gear to maximize your build. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands’ loot is RNG-based, much like Borderlands’, so you’ll need a little luck to snag a weapon with the perks and skills you desire. This element of chance adds to the fun of finding things with the precise perks and passive abilities you need for your build.

Of course, customisation is a big element of the game, and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands does a great job with it. To begin, you’ll be presented with an extensive character creation screen that allows you to choose everything from your character’s physical appearance to the patterns and colors of their armor. As you gain various cosmetic items along your trip, you’ll also have the option to modify your character’s look at any time.

Changes from previous Borderlands games include the removal of grenades in favor of spells, making combat even more chaotic than previously. Incantations abound in Wonderlands, allowing you to do anything from conjure hydra heads to pouring down scorching missiles from above.

The gunplay is as refined as ever, and the weapons have some weight to them, giving Wonderlands some reality to balance out its wackiness. Furthermore, melee attacks are surprisingly effective this time around, particularly when finishing off adversaries that are near death. Not to mention how wonderful it is to use your hammer to send foes flying.

The fighting and gameplay remain as tight as ever, with swarms of adversaries rushing you from all sides, made even more chaotic by the confined venues rather than an open world. To be victorious, you must learn to utilize all of the tools available to you. This necessitates a continual changeover of weapons and the casting of spells just as they reach the end of their cooldown.

The stakes are extremely high, since death will result in a huge reduction in the amount of gold you’ve amassed. The “Save Your Soul” mechanism reappears in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, allowing you to continue fighting after your health meter has been drained.

The Wonderlands are waiting for you.

The events of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands take place on a Bunkers and Badasses (D&D) board, with Tiny Tina taking the role of Dungeon Master. She can essentially control the narrative by bending the rules of the game and altering the world to her liking. This doesn’t happen too often as not to break immersion, but the game makes sure to sprinkle in hilarious moments throughout the main story.

Tina’s vivid colors, weird locations, and sometimes ludicrous tale all serve to remind us that this is all the result of her creative imagination. Valentine and Frette, who have wonderful chemistry with Tiny Tina and do a terrific job of injecting some comedy whenever things go boring, are also there.

Tiny’s Place The major plot is Tina’s Wonderlands, which fails. The plot follows a very typical pattern, with nothing in the way of originality or imagination. You play as an ambitious warrior who must defend the world from a massive, strong evil, much like in almost every other game. The writing and funny conversation in Wonderland assist to make things tolerable, but don’t anticipate a deep tale that makes you care about the characters.

While these games don’t need a good plot to be enjoyable, it would have been lovely to have a compelling enemy in the vein of Handsome Jack.

You’ll be wandering about in the Overworld, which depicts the board you’re playing on, when you’re not busy fulfilling objectives and battling opponents. You control your character in the Overworld, which is a map packed with wealth, side missions, and portals. Even if it’s just for a few minutes, it’s a welcome change of pace from the high-octane activity. Exploring the Overworld, on the other hand, is worthwhile. It’s chock-full of absurd side quests, hidden locations to explore, and entertaining mini-games to accomplish.

The Bottom Line on Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

Pros

  • Playing this game is both enjoyable and challenging.
  • There’s a lot of stuff with different perks and abilities.
  • There’s a lot of material in the shape of side missions and fights.

Cons

  • A bland cast of people leads to a mediocre tale.
  • Instead of a full-priced game, it might have been published as DLC.

The game’s similarities to Borderlands 3 make it an easy sell for longtime fans of the series who already know what to expect from these looter shooters. Still, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands puts its own D&D twist on things, which makes it a unique experience that can draw in new players thanks to its quirks and wacky gameplay.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is arguably one of the most addicting and enjoyable FPS games in recent memory, thanks to a terrific loot system and outstanding gunplay.
